Draconic Order CHARTER

ARTICLE I: Mission
• To protect the crown and citizens of Haven without question.
• The goal of the Draconic order is to allow those with dragon blood or ties to dragons to refine and focus their abilities through discipline, bringing them fully under the user’s control and to the greatest extent of their possible power.
• The Order exists as a framework for those with experience guiding and controlling such abilities to help those without.
• The Order’s tenets of discipline, prowess, service and honor exist primarily for the benefit of its members in this manner, but are also intended to serve as a positive influence on the community and a benefit for those affected by the Order indirectly.

ARTICLE II: Prospective Members

• The Order is potentially open to any that
~ are true dragons of any variety that are willing to follow the Order, or
~ are progeny of true dragons, to the tenth generation, or
~ possess enough of a gift for dragon magic to evoke draconic traits through ritual, or
~ can take, or actively seeking the ability to take a true dragon’s form, or
• Applicants will be evaluated by the Knight Regalia and / or the Knight Commander to ascertain their ability to contribute to the Order.
Wish to swear alligence to the protection and support of the draconic order.

ARTICLE III: Tenets of the Order

• Discipline
~ Control and understanding of one’s own self is key to unlocking one’s inner potential.
~ Discipline does not imply unthinking obedience or rigid adherence to any fixed code by necessity. It is simply the full understanding and control of one’s person.
~ All members are expected to show and practice discipline in their lives inside and outside of the order.
~ Infractions will happen; the most important thing in each case is to understand why it did and how to correct it.

• Prowess
~ Fully learning a skill, trade or pastime is key to understanding and realizing one’s potential.
~ The Order actively encourages physical and mental fitness; both components are important for those seeking to expand themselves.
~ Skill at arms, while not a strict necessity, provides a useful focus and helps simultaneously train members in a number of vital areas.
~ Skill at magic, for those who seek fuller understanding of arcane or divine spells, is similarly useful. It is also necessary, especially for natural casters, because poor control of magic may cause unintended harm to others.
~ Victory is to be celebrated. Defeat is an opportunity to learn and grow.

• Service
~ Skill and talent not put to use is wasted. Members grow and learn by actual use of their gifts in service to the Order or to others.
~ Service to the Order is expected. The Order depends upon its members to contribute and do their fair share in order to exist and thrive.
~ Service to others can be helpful for all involved. It is not strictly required, nor is charity necessarily implied. However, the expectations of those you will help and your own expectations should be clear at all points to minimize disputes and ensure that all parties gain.

• Honor
~ Honor is the outward manifestation of discipline, and follows naturally from having full knowledge and control of one’s self.
~ Self-knowledge allows for honesty, and honesty is important for all members to demonstrate in interactions with others. A member of the Order must be trustworthy.
~ Honor is also associated with respect for others, and the recognition of their rights to property and welfare. Crimes such as theft and murder are destructive to the Order’s reputation and one’s own worth.

ARTICLE IV: Non-Interference

• While the tenets of the Order are important, the Order does not seek to infringe on areas of life that are not significant in the development of the talents of its members, or significant to the Order’s own welfare.

• A diversity of talent and opinion will strengthen the Order, not weaken it.

• Similarly, the Order does not exclude any members of existing guilds and organizations, so long as said organizations do not directly interfere with the Order.

ARTICLE V: Organization

• Knight Regalia
~ The Knight Regalia is the highest rank of the Order. This honor comprises honorary knighthood of the realm.
~ The overall leader of the organization.
~ Has the right of refusal for any matter of policy or membership.
~ Has possession of any durable goods held by the Order, primarily the meeting place.
~ Mediates dispute resolution between members, or between the Order and other organizations.

• Knight Commanders of the Order
~ Knight Commander is also invested with honorary knighthood of the realm and comprises the second rank of the Order.
~ To act as second-in-command for matters of policy and membership.
~ Assumes the responsibilities of the Knight Regalia when he/she is unable to preside.

• Knight of the Order
~ The knight is the full member rank of the Order.
~ Senior members of the organization, proven by experience to uphold the tenets of the Order.
~ Guides and teaches newer members, helping them achieve their potential.

• Squire of the Order
~ The Member is the lowest rank of the Order.
~ Prospective members who have joined but are still unproven maintain this rank.
~ This allows primarily a probationary period to ensure the individual is well-suited for the Order and vice versa.
