Below are some do's, don'ts and taboos then playing a Thayan charicter. Bare in mind these would be "common" knowlage amung Thayans and simply things i have learn over the years playing a Slave, Blackshield, and several Red Wizards. These are simply eddicates for playing a Thayan style charicter and not at all "hard core" rules.
Sterio types: Thayans, exspecialy the Red Wizards tend to be exseptionaly racest, though not all of them show it or reveal it. They see themselves as supieior to most other races. They also frown apon if not possatively hate other arcain casting people whom aren't wizards. Sorcerers and Warlocks back in Thay often kill or enslave arcane casters in order to control the "chaotic" nature of such people. Thayans are a race that beleive in slavory, and they tend to be exseptioaly harsh tword slaves.
Typical Thayan pysical looks are yellowish "sickly skin. Most tend to shave their heads, exspecialy those whom have gained status, as status is useualy displayed on the head int he form of tatoos. Thayns see themselves as "nobles" and as such they have a fairly strict set of unspken rules and guidelines they adhear to in order to continue this legacy. They are fairly cunning people seeking to take the world over, not by magic, of wich they could very likely do considering their skill, but insted they are atempting to get their pawns on everything politicaly wich means they need to be sociable and political.
here as some do's:
1. have fun!
2. play your charicter as you want
3. Keep in mind Thayan lore when playing a thayan charicter
4. feel free to be popus and spitfull
5. remember every action has consaquences, some good some bad. So if tyour going to play "sterio typical "evil" chances are your going to end up dead or in the midst of alot of drama before your done.
6. keep in mind the server rules
don'ts!:
7. don't cause ooc drama, try to keep it IC, but if something happens and it needs to go to an ooc level make sure to try and remain calm and rational
8. atempt to play a "goody goody", Thayans are useualy lawfull evil, on this server we've tryed to get them more tword the socialy acseptable Lawfull Neutral
9. Don't bitch when people not with the Enclave run around stateing your evil and a slaver excetera, your a Thayan, it goes with the teritory.
10. be too chaotic, as a lawfull society it makes chaotic Thayans extramly hard to play, and in fact they useualy find themselves booted out of the Enclave because they end up makeing the Enclave to be viewed in a negative light.
11. useing valger display of power. While its fun to summon up undead everywhere you go, there are just too many "goody goody" types in Haven that would knock them down and kill you for your efferts, not to mention becomeing a social outcast.
12. actualy abuse slaves, make sure you have ooc consent to treat them that way.
some taboos:
13. Because Thayans are racest, chances are "mateing" or "sexing" anything that isn't a Mulani is useualy frowned apon.
14. Alowing your bedroom antics become public, Thayans are noble, they prefer to keep bredroom things in the bedroom.
15. openly declairing your hate for someone is one of the strangest taboos there is amung the Thayans. Most Thayans take everything smileing and when you least exspect it they will find a way to get rid of you, one way or anouther.
16. atempting to overthrow the curent powers that be. I've added this one here because its against the server rules to "overthriw" the rulers in charge of the Enclave, but you can have alot of fun sceeming about it, and wishing it would happen.
17. warlock and sorcerers are taboo because they are frowned apon by Thayans, and a Red Wizard ever caught useing such magics would likely be killed on sight.
18. not acknowlageing people of the same rank or higher when they acknowlage you (its extreamly rude of a Red Wizard also, to not at least nod to their lessers in greeting or in passing)
19. Haveing a red Wizard as a "Slave Mistress". Most Red Wizards feel they are above being some sort of slaves baby sitter and thus useualy leave it to the lower ranking citazens or clergy.
20. breeding with other races. This is likely one of the most taboo amung the Thayans. They are so pridefull of their own race its likely such a "mud blood" or "tainted" creature would become a slave and the Red Wizard who birthed it our "caused" it would likely be shunned and scorned and loose status amung their people.
21. preforming meaninal taskes, such as prospecting, farming, or gardening. these are seen as "slave work" and most Red Wizards and other Thayan nobles feel they are above such mindless taskes.
So in a nutshell that sums up a few key points you might like to know. As stated int he beginning, these are mearly guidelines and sujestions, to be used as an aid to RPing a Thayan here in Haven. Below are some more guidelines taken from the former Khazark Qunado/Noble Slave.

Quote:
RP within the Enclave is now centered around a well organized ALMOST exclusively LAWFUL, neutral-evil, society in which a STRONG unity and socialistic, patriotic, nationalistic underpinning will drive the free market capitolism which made Thay the greatest economic international / global powerhouse it is supposed to be. Players are expected to maintain amiable relations OOC with other Enclave members as much as possible as well as contribute AND benefit from being an integral part of "The Body".
This does NOT, of course, mean that characters will not struggle against each other as they strive for individual gains whether they be economic or intimate OR that two characters may not absolutely despise each other. As long as there's no OOC BS and BOTH characters pitted against each other contribute to the whole and put the "Needs of the Many" and the Enclave first The Khazark & Vice-Khazark will support BOTH.
With the equivelant rank of Tharcion, the Khazark's primary concern is and will remain establishing unity and healing the injuries of his peoples as far as his own hand extends. Even with a civil war for control of the Thaymount still ongoing, Szass Tam has established himself as the ruling power and it will be at least a decade, by mod timeline, before anything even remotely earth shattering happens on that front. Th Khazark, while SECRETLY sympathetic to rebelling parties and doing what he can to take in and offer protection to dissident individuals smart enough to keep their pieholes shut regarding seditious or rebellious views against the power ruling Thay, he receives his orders directly from the Thaymount and any RP regarding being sent from the same or delivering orders from the same is the EXCLUSIVE purview of the DM staff of Haven.
There are NOT tens of thousands of Red Wizards and the long held traditions established by the Enclave regarding apprenticeship is being and will be supported! It is our collective opinion (we realize what opinions are like, that everyone has one and that they all smell the same) that RP regarding people starting out as Red Wizards when they have yet to prove their loyalty and abilty in crafting, using the weave, business acumen and leadership is in err and contrary to ALL available Lore! While it is certainly possible for someone meeting the SAME standards as the Thayan Apprentices who have and are working hard to EARN their robes could walk in the door and shortly thereafter have them recognized by the Khazark & Vice-Khazark it would be singular exception and not the rule.
All characters regardless of race or professional path, with the RARE exception of some local individual whose player wishes the character enslaved, are to be of Thayan regional origin to include occupied areas of Mulhorand and Rashemen Thay has held for over five centuries OR from far flung Enclaves elsewhere.
AGAIN.. There are NOT tens of thousands of Red Wizards! Having a character robed in the Red is no small affair and promotions to same are based on, amoung other things;
1) Getting along with others in the Enclave and having / being fun to RP with.
2) Falling within the above listed tenants.
3) Attaining level 30 as an Apprentice during which time the player and character prove "their loyalty and abilty in crafting, using the weave, business acumen and leadership".
4) A profound PATIENCE & willingness to RP and EARN the robes, privledges, rank and promotions just like those who have gone before. To do or expect less undermines the rarity and exclusivity of BEING a Red Wizard of Thay and devalues the RP.
From the outside looking In, or from the bottom looking up the ladder and chain of command it all may seem a bit daunting or odd.. BUT.. If you put in the time and effort, are patient and content to do the RP and work it will make you all the happier when that day comes and your character becomes A Knight, a High Divine or a Red Wizard of Thay!
